Our first big project!
Amidst a sabbatical during pregnancy , that too a very complicated one for starters , we got the most loveliest opportunity to be part of a very special friend's sisters wedding!
Swathy who is an amazing gourmet chef with a very refreshing style herself asked us to create 7 customised georgette crepe sarees for the bridemaids at her sisters wedding. We knew the stakes were high and we were ready to carpe diem!
In the vibrant tapestry of Swathy's sister's wedding, we embarked on a journey to create something truly unique and special for her bridesmaids. As a tribute to tradition and an ode to individuality, we decided to customize seven Banarasi sarees using natural dyes, each tailored to reflect the distinct personality of every bridesmaid.
Our quest began with the selection of pure Banarasi silk, a canvas that would beautifully absorb the natural hues we envisioned. We collaborated with skilled artisans who shared our passion for preserving traditional craftsmanship. The warp and weft of each saree were patiently handwoven, laying the foundation for the stories that would unfold in the vibrant colors of nature.
Natural dyeing became the soul of our project. We sourced dyes from plant extracts, flowers, and roots, ensuring that the process was not only environmentally conscious but also a celebration of the earth's bounty. The rich reds of madder root, the soothing blues of indigo, the golden warmth of turmeric – each dye held a story of its own.
For the bridesmaids, the customization process was an immersive experience. We carefully tailored each saree, considering the style preferences and personalities of the wearers. The borders were adorned with intricate motifs, representing the bond between each bridesmaid and the bride, like chapters in a shared history.
As the natural dyes embraced the silk, the colors evolved into a harmonious palette. The sarees became a symphony of nature's hues, a testament to the beauty that could be achieved without compromising the environment. The vibrant tones served as a metaphor for the diverse personalities of the bridesmaids, united in celebration.
On the day of Krishna's wedding, the bridesmaids adorned their bespoke Banarasi sarees, each carrying a piece of the earth's artistry. The wedding venue bloomed with the collective radiance of the seven distinct hues, symbolizing not just the union of two souls but the weaving together of seven unique stories.
In customizing these Banarasi sarees using natural dyes, we didn't just create garments; we crafted an experience. Each thread, each color, and each motif whispered tales of craftsmanship, sustainability, and the beauty of embracing individuality. It was a labor of love that transcended the boundaries of fashion, a gesture that made my sister's wedding not just a celebration but a canvas for artistry and heartfelt connections.
On August 25th , we witnessed a vision of culture and handloom, where threads of tradition intricately wove tales of heritage and craftsmanship. WE WERE ECSTATIC!
And to add a cherry on top, the bride's mother wore a handwoven Kadhwa banarasi from us. She embodied timeless grace and elegance.
We can not thank Swathy and her family enough for trusting us on their most special day.
